About Dr. Nate

Originally from Boise, Idaho, Dr. Nate grew up exploring the mountains of Idaho.  He had interests in fitness right out of high school, where he began riding mountain and road bikes.  This passion for fitness led him to pursue mountain and road cycling as a competitive athlete.  As he increased his fitness, he was able to compete with the pro/semi-pro categories of the sport.

As Dr. Nate was working on his physical fitness, he took on the role as a personal trainer/endurance coach, opening his first business, Spangler Training Systems in Flagstaff Arizona in 2003.  He worked with a local sports chiropractor during his business launch and saw the benefits of having a chiropractor on his performance team as an elite athlete.  He decided sports/rehab chiropractic was the best career move to continue advancing his knowledge of the body.

Dr. Nate pursued exercise science initially at Northern Arizona University and later transferred to Boise State University into their pre-med/health science bachelors program.  He graduated in 2007 and was accepted to the University of Western States Chiropractic program in 2008.  In this program, he greatly expanded his knowledge of the human body both structurally and functionally.  Learning how chiropractic manipulations improve structural and functional movement was heavily explored.  In addition to learning manipulations, he expanded his knowledge of functional movement and rehab protocols for orthopedic and neurologic conditions, chronic pain conditions and acute and chronic overuse injuries.

When he graduated in 2011, he immediately opened Trailhead Chiropractic.  After 2 years of practice, he decided to go back to school to specialize in sports medicine with a Master's Degree in Exercises Science and Sports Medicine.  He spent his final practicum at the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute studying advanced techniques in physical therapy and orthopedic rehabilitation.  He later went on to build a rehabilitation facility for Trailhead Sports Clinic.

Dr. Nate studies functional movement and physiotherapy each year for his continuing education, completing 18-20 hours annually.  He has a great interest in soft tissue therapies, such as Graston Technique, Myofascial Decompression (cupping), Myofascial Release with movement and rehabilitative exercise progressions.   He does adjust patients traditionally and alters his technique if the patient prefers less traditional manipulations.  Coupling joint manipulation/mobilization with soft tissue therapies, while learning self-care and rehab exercise progressions, has proven to be the most impactful approach to obtaining results for his patients over the years.

Outside of clinic hours, Dr. Nate loves spending time with his wife and son, camping and riding their bikes.  He enjoys playing acoustic guitar, barbecuing with family and friends and enjoying all that Boise has to offer.
